Reyneris Reyes began his dance training at the Vocational School of Art in Pinar de Rio, Cuba and continued at the National Ballet School in Havana. He joined the National Ballet of Cuba in 1993 as a member of the corps de ballet, was promoted to first soloist in 1996 and principal dancer in 1998. Among the major roles he performed in Cuba were Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Albrecht in Giselle, and Basilio in Don Quixote. Reyes joined Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1999 as a soloist and was promoted to principal dancer in 2002. His repertoire in Winnipeg included George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante, Rudi van Dantzig's Romeo and julieta (Romeo and Mercutio),Mauricio Wainrot’ (Carmina Burana) , Peter Wright’s Giselle (Albrecht and Peasant Pas de Deux), and Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty. With Boston Ballet, Reyes has appeared in Marius Petipa's The Sleeping Beauty (Prince Florimund and Bluebird), John Cranko's The Taming of the Shrew (Petruchio and Romeo y Julieta (Mercutio), August Bournonville's La Sylphide (Gurn), Sir Frederick Ashton's La Fille mal gardée (Colas), William Forsythe's In the middle, somewhat elevated,James Kudelka's Cinderella, Lucinda Childs' Ten Part Suite, Val Caniparoli's Lambarena, Maina Gielgud's Giselle (Hilarion and Peasant Pas de Deux) Jorma Elo's In On Blue, Twyla Tharp’s( In The Upper Room)and George Balanchine’s (The Four Temperaments and Serenade) . Reyes has toured extensively in Europe, the United States, and Latin America and is the recipient of the Cuban National Arts Medal , the highest artistic honor in Cuba.
