Abby Bushnell, a native of Massachusetts, began her ballet training at the Boston Ballet. At age 15 she attended a summer intensive at Houston Ballet, and was invited to train at the Houston Ballet Academy year round. Subsequently, Bushnell joined the second company, Houston Ballet II for two years, performing both with HBII and with the main company under the direction of Stanton Welch. In 2009, Abby joined the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago as a trainee, where she trained for two years before being invited as an apprentice at Dresden’s Semperoper Ballett under the direction of Aaron Watkin. In 2012, she joined the Slovak National Ballet in Bratislava as a corps de ballet member under the direction of Jozef Dolinsky and in 2015, Bushnell was promoted to demi-soloist. She is currently in her fourth season with the Czech National Ballet in Prague, Czech Republic.
With Semperoper Ballett and The Slovak National Ballet, Bushnell performed in many classics and full length ballets including La Bayadere, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Cinderella, Onegin, Aaron Watkin’s The Sleeping Beauty, Uwe Scholz’s Symphony, Youri Vamos’s A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream, Daniel de Andrade’s Nijinsky, Natalia Horečna’s Slovak Dances, as well as George Balanchine’s Diamonds, Emeralds, Serenade and Coppelia.
Bushnell has danced leading roles as the Diamond Fairy, and Cinderella in Vladamir Malakohov’s Sleeping Beauty, Lead Snowflake, Flower and Chinese in the Nutcracker, Big Swans in Swan Lake, Juliet’s Friend in Massimo Moricone’s Romeo and Juliet, and Odalisques in Le Corsaire.
In Bratislava, Bushnell has also participated in galas including “Art for Life” and “Dance Open”.
